Soul Majestic’s career spans far and wide, from playing small clubs and house parties to festivals, large arena’s and venues throughout North America. Since their start on college radio in Santa Cruz, CA in 2001 their music has been played on the radio throughout the world including XM Satellite Radio where their hit songs Better World and Rough N’ Tuff were in heavy rotation for over 6 months. While becoming a household name with the reggae audience, they have also managed to attract many fans that don’t typically gravitate to the genre. Infusing their varied musical influences, from Rock to R&B, Folk to Reggae, their song writing and sound have proven timeless. And don’t be fooled by their eclectic nature: the band’s drive to keep the reggae authenticity has even reggae purists’ approval. Soul Majestic has fostered a passionate fan base that will travel to see the band play.

To describe their live show: first imagine both male and female lead vocals interweaving over steady, thumping bass and drums, textural, bubbling organs and keyboards, with sweet yet gritty lead guitar licks and innovative, tasty percussion overlay–occasionally mixing in the sizzling sounds of brass. Add to that a well-crafted set of songs with messages of community, self-worth, struggle, joy, action and love–sonically ranging from massive beat-based sound to sensitive ballads.A Soul Majestic concert in a nutshell: unique and sincere songwriting, soul-shaking reggae grooves, and a spontaneous, uplifting, and crowd interactive stage show.

Discography: Soul Majestic’s self-titled debut album, released in 2002, was followed up in 2004 with a full band exodus to the birthplace of reggae and origin of the reggae genre, the island of Jamaica. While there, they recorded their second album, entitled Until That Day, at Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston, enlisting the involvement of some of their heroes like Sly and Robbie and Anthony B. In July of 2009, their third and highly anticipated album entitled Better World was released featuring 13 diverse tracks including collaborations with Sly and Robbie, Tony Moses and Trinidad’s Queen Omega, as well as production and a handful of rhythms by Million 7 Sound. Their most innovative work to date, Better World quickly gained notice and was placed in rotation on reggae radio programs worldwide, playing on radio as far off as the Philippines, Portugal, and Europe. Better World was listed on the Top 10 international reggae albums of 2009 by Galaxy radio in Canada.

What’s new: following up their recent track “Medical Condition [215]” (which is now available on iTunes and accompanied by a music video which can be viewed at www.youtube.com/soulmajestic), the band will be releasing a handful of singles throughout the year, eventually compiling them with a new batch of un-released material into an album.

Moving forward: whether touring the country in their 15-passenger Bio-diesel tour van or writing and recording new material in the studio, the band’s mission to raise awareness of global interconnectedness, and how people’s actions impact one another and the earth will remain in the forefront. Joining together with organizations aligned to their mission and world-views, and continuing to focus on sustainability and family will be paramount to Soul Majestic’s forward movements. To stay in the know about Soul Majestic’s current activity check for them on Facebook and Twitter.

Winchester Rebels – CD Release Party with The Dtease

Doors at 7:30pm

Listen on MySpace: Winchester Rebels

WINCHESTER REBELS was formed in August of 2009 in Santa Barbara California. Former “The Awakend” frontman, Nick Hunt and “Sicker Than Others” Bassist, John Livergood, came together after about a year of talking and started putting together a sound that would echo great hard rock bands from the 90′s with a twist of the new. Shortly after picking up a studio in Isla Vista, we ran across our friend Nick Fitzgerald, guitarist from “Battleship Grey,” and things started coming together. Barry Carter filled in on drums and we picked up James Longorea to play Guitar and fill in the rest of our sound. The drums are hard hitting, the guitars are heavy, the vocals inspire and carry the melodic sound of a band that demands to be heard. We have been compared to the likes of Alice In Chains, STP, Danzig, Muse, Bowie, Incubus and others. Listen to our music and you decide. See you at our next show. Nick Hunt -vocals Nick Fitzgerald -guitar James Longoria -guitar Jesse Burrill -bass Barry Carter -drums Influences: Alice In Chains, STP, Danzig, Kings Of Leon, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, A Wilhelm Scream, Killswitch Engaged, AFI, Lagwagon, Bullets And Octane, Against Me, Atreyu, Bon Jovi, Alkaline Trio, White Lies, Pantera, Slayer, Avenged Sevenfld, The Exit, The Bravery, Guns & Roses, Ignite, Face To Face and a bunch more Sounds Like: Hard Rock

Halloween with ALO!!! (Animal Liberation Orchestra)

Everything you have ever heard about ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) being a fun band to go see live is true. The American folk-rock quartet from the Bay Area plays to mixed crowds of college students, young bohemian couples, close friends looking to hang out, and those who just came off from work and wanted to unwind. These random groups of people who have little in common with each other all have a common connection to ALO’s. Their audience always seems to know the material, and immerse themselves into the music with very little coaxing from the band. ALO’s music speaks for itself, it has a naturalness likened to Phish and The Dave Matthews Band which the audience took to immediately.

The band creates a liberating ambience with expansive harmonies and waves of melodic pleasantries. Clad in ready to wear street clothes, the band looks as com- fortably dressed as their audience. Their sound is surprisingly full with simply the four members on stage – Zach Gill (vocals/keyboards/accordion/ukulele), Steve Adams (bass/vocals), Dan Lebrowitz (guitar/vocals), and David Brogan (drums/ vocals). For “Plastic Bubble”, Gill will pull out his ukulele while for “Girl, I Want To Lay You Down,” he graces the audience with a heady solo on the accordion. Though Gill proves to be a very versatile musician, ALO truly is a band that depends on their teamwork in the live setting as well as on their recordings, with the other members chiming in with their complementary instrumental parts and vocals.

The band members get into a groove that carries their audience away with them so it doesn’t matter if your a fan of folk or jazz or roots rock or light reggae/ funk, the music feels positive and uplifting. Whatever style audience members do not like before the show, they have newfound appreciation for by the ending. Many of their fans describe their concerts with folk/roots rock artists as being a spiritual experience, because the music brings people together into a perfect union who under any other circumstances would not be. In that way, ALO achieves what few other humans can.

As for their new album…ALO is not a band that dwells in the past. They are always moving forward. Always striving to discover new ideas. Always looking to go on new adventures. Their latest adventure, Man of the World (to be released February 9, 2010 on Brushfire Records), finds the Cali collective flexing their considerable creative powers to craft their finest album yet. Recorded almost entirely live, the 11-song collection is the sound of four players who have truly found their groove together. This is ALO at their most natural, their most organic and their most pure. Man of the World is the next level for ALO.
