Sean Hayes’ worn, soulful music defies easy categorization. Described as loose, dusty, and alive, his songs radiate a free-spirited charm that rarely seems attached to any particular era. The result is a sound infused with eclectic instrumentation and an unpolished warmth. Born in NYC and raised in North Carolina, Sean Hayes now resides in San Francisco. His songs have been re-mixed by DJs and covered by folk artists. His unique soulful voice infects audiences with charm, equal parts affirming and heartbreaking.

He self produces all his albums and he has managed to play around the world with many amazing artists: Aimee Mann, The Be Good Tanyas, Jolie Holland, Brett Dennen, Badly Drawn Boy and many others his songs have been featured on hit television shows such as Parenthood and HBO’s Bored to Death. His song “Turnaroundturnmeon” is part of Big Change: Songs for FINCA, an album curated by academy award winning actress Natalie Portman. From humble beginnings this ‘humble man’ has won the hearts of audiences everywhere he goes. His melodic voice and beautiful guitar picking technique has led him and his crew of musicians through six wonderful records.

Sean’s latest record Run Wolves Run is another great entry into the collection. Sean has included a song written for his new wife, and mother of his first born son, called ‘When We Fall In,’ a beautiful piece that will surely be remembered years from now. This album has tracks reminiscent of early Sean Hayes albums, but does set itself apart with a few slightly more jazz toned tracks. It definitely has some tracks to grove to, and perhaps has some Bobby Mcpherin-esque moments as well such as the song ‘Powerful.’ It is too early for me to say that this is my favourite Sean Hayes album as each listener will most likely discover that when listening to Sean Hayes his lyrics seem to seep into your subconscious weeks later leaving you humming to yourself while walking down the street. It may not be my favourite yet, but I would highly recommend it and suggest any that enjoy this album to contact Sean on his website because you will probably get a reply. That’s just the kind of guy he is. So if you’re looking for an album to ‘Shake Your Body’ and be a ‘Soul Shaker’ as well, Run Wolves Run is just the ticket.
