Big Yellow Moon is a home grown Santa Barbara trio, which features melodic vocals, three-part harmonies, and simple acoustic instrumental accompaniment. All three members of the group are accomplished musicians and performers, and have appeared regionally and nationally in many settings, with groups as varied as the Farm, American Spring, The Soul City Survivors, and the Beach Boys. From this diverse background springs a repertoire of material spanning the breadth of American music, from folk, to blues and rock and roll, and beyond.

As a singer/songwriter, Anny Eastwood has performed in the S.F. bay area, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara area for many years. When Anny plays the dulcimer and steel string guitar, traditional folk takes on a new life though a fusion of jazz chords and syncopated rhythms. Her clear voice, with its wide range of pitch and texture, celebrates our humanness – from intimate longings of the heart to raucous irreverence. On the stage, her warmth and humor are infectious.

Irene Fredricey provides the rich and soulful powerhouse vocals in the rhythm and blues material – nicknamed “Queen Irene” in the group, the Soul City Survivors, a popular Santa Barbara group in which she and Ernie are also members, she projects the joy of singing in every performance.

Ernie Knapp plays the guitar and sings. Some of his original songs were co-written with his band mates during his time touring as bassist with the Beach Boys in the 1980’s, and many of the vocal arrangements come out of that experience.

The important thing about Big Yellow Moon is what happens when these three voices blend together in harmony – the whole is truly greater than the sum of its parts. The combination of the soaring vocals with Ernie’s rhythmic guitar playing, and the accompanying percussion create a distinctive, beautiful, and powerful sound.
